While Shaun actually hasn't said yes or no to it (my own fault; not being online some days and then the ones I have been on I forgot), I figure otacon can become a member of this. I need to get in contact with him in some way to give him the password.

Second, yes, I beat Wild Arms and now have begun to play Empires: Dawn of the Modern world. For consoles my games of choice might be the different forms of RPGs, but for computers it's real-time strategy all the way

Update: And finally remembering I did get to asking Shaun now, and he said yes so you're in

"Best Ever"
Author: thedjinni

I'm not sure how many of the very view readers here go to GameFAQs, but I must say I really dislike their voting things they have. "Best Game Ever", "Best Character Ever" and so forth; I hate them for the fact they aren't doing them right. They put up games and characters who have nothing in common, from totally different games/genres, and expect people to choose between them which is better. That isn't the way to go about it.

I say, they should drop the whole Character part entirely and if they do the game one again they should wise up. No "best ever"; but "best (system) (genre)" ever game. Another words, like "Best NES Puzzle Game" and so forth. That makes more sense to me.

All members of this group I've put under "Classmates" if they have a journal here; that way if anything private needs to be said just amoung members, this is how.

Also, after old posts begin to disappear into the archives, I'm going to make posts titled "Reviews" or "Rants" and what not and put links to all entries that fall under those categories under them as links, and then put a Bookmark to them on the side so viewers can have easy access to them

Super Mario Sunshine
Author: thedjinni

Game: Super Mario Sunshine
System: GameCube
Year Released: 2002

Shigeru Miyamoto can kiss my ass.

There, I said it. The great man whom came up some of the best games ever can bend off and kiss my ass.

Now before I get lynched, let me explain myself and why I chose to word it the way I did.

First of all, the game isn't bad. Don't be fooled by how I opened this review; I really did like the game and thought it was good. It expanded on Super Mario 64 in some very good ways, and is a worthy Mario game for any Mario fan and gamer alike.

The F.L.U.D.D pack was an interesting idea too, and openning for some very fun game play.

Now, the first of my problems with the game; the camera. Every 3D game must address the camera angles, and it fell a little short. It isn't the worst I've seen, but it still could've been better.

My main gripe though with the game, and the reason I openned this review the way I did, is... the water-packless levels. You should've seen the smile on my face when I started to play the first one. They were like 3D levels of the older Mario games, even including a remix of the old Mario theme. I was in Heaven. I had a little trouble beating this first level, but nothing too bad. I couldn't wait for the next packless level! ... until I got there.

One death, and I get the usial "Too Bad!" screen. I start again, and soon die again. "Too Bad!". And it repeats. I finally get past the area giving me trouble, to just get stuck at another part 5 seconds later. More "Too Bads!". After more "Too Bads!" then I can count, I finally beat that level. And several other packless levels later, I come to one conclusion.

Shigeru Miyamoto can kiss my ass. Those packless levels are unfair beyound believe. Between the problems with camera angles (which is magnafied during these times), sliding off of something when you should've landed, and loads of other things rack up to at least 20 "Too Bads!" per packless level.

I had yet to beat this game. I'm only around 5 or so shinies short of the final level, but screw it. If I try to do it and I play one of those levels again, or any other unfair/overly hard level like it (ie, many of the theme park levels), I'll go insane. I'm serious, I developed an eye-lid spasm from the amount of "Too Bads!" I got.

Final Thought: A good game marred by sometimes over the top difficulty and unfairness, in my opinion. Rent, I'd say, if you must play it. Though by this point you could just buy it and get it really cheap.

Metroid Prime
Author: darklight

Game: Metroid Prime
System: Nintendo Gamecube
Year released: 2001

Shigeru Miyamoto had lost his mind, or so we thought.  We knew that the transition of the beloved Metroid series from 2-D to 3-D would be the end of it.  We loved the adventuring, the dark atmosphere, the quest to find that one item you need to get past that frustrating room...  How could you do all that in a mere first-person shooter?

Retro Studios showed us how.  I believe this is the first game that really showed off the Gamecube hardware.  Its "kiddie" image was shattered by those beautifully-rendered background, eerie creatures and Samus' kick-ass suit.  For years we had helped Samus Aran thwart the attempts of the space pirates to take over the universe.  But it wasn't until Metroid Prime that we actually became Samus.

The controls took some getting used to, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who complained of index-finger pain at having to hold down the triggers to scan and read data.  But after the mild learning curve, the immersion was total.  I turned off the HUD lag, as it made me slightly seasick, then proceeded to kick ass.

This is the first game I had ever played that genuinely frightened me.  I walked into a room in the Chozo Ruins and things started to darken...  An eerie, ghost-like sound shattered my composure from somewhere off to my left.  I turned, half-scared already, to find a Chozo ghost...  and it was trying to kill me!  Me, Samus Aran, who the Chozo had raised!

In a later room, having exhausted my missiles in a battle with Chozo spirits, and having less than one energy tank left, I was literally shaking with adrenaline and fear.  Two doors led out of the room, besides the one through which I had entered.  I knew one would lead to a save point.  I knew the other would lead to certain death.

I chose wrong.

Final thoughts:  Metroid Prime exceeded all our expectations, raising the bar for every first-person game published afterward, and creating a new genre: first-person adventure.  I highly recommend picking this game up, if you haven't played it already.  You can get a used Gamecube for $70 and the game for $10 used at your local EB.  Happy hunting!
